The Andhra Pradesh High Court has permitted construction of the proposed Google-Adani hyperscale data centre in Visakhapatnam to continue, while making it clear that the project will remain subject to the final outcome of a pending Public Interest Litigation (PIL). The order was passed by a bench headed by Chief Justice Lisa Gill. mint
The PIL challenges the allotment of 160 acres of endowments land at Adavivaram and Mudasarlova to Vizag Hyperscale Data Centre Park Ltd, an Adani Infra-owned special purpose vehicle involved in the project. The petitioner has raised concerns relating to the land allotment and environmental compliance. The Times of India
The State government told the court that the project had received environmental clearance from the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority on June 10. The government also submitted that the data centre falls under Category B and that the required water would be supplied through the rural water supply scheme. The Times of India
The court has allowed construction to proceed but has cautioned that the developer will undertake the work at its own risk and cost. Investments made while the case is pending will not create an automatic entitlement if the final decision goes against the project. mint
The Google-Adani project is part of Google's planned $15-billion investment in India over five years, with the Visakhapatnam AI hub planned as a major gigawatt-scale data-centre development. Google and Adani broke ground on the Vizag AI hub in April 2026. Adani
