The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections will use a ballot-paper system, with different colours assigned to the two posts being contested. Pink ballot papers will be used for the Mayor’s election, while white ballot papers will be used for corporator candidates. Voters will cast both votes and place the two ballot papers in the same ballot box.
Polling is scheduled for October 28, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., across all 120 GVMC wards. Counting of votes is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on October 30. The corporation has approximately 18.37 lakh registered voters, and officials have identified more than 10,000 personnel for election duty.
District election officials have also arranged polling personnel training, designated distribution centres and prepared strong rooms and counting facilities. Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi said 6,607 police personnel would be deployed to support security at polling stations and other election-related locations.
The colour-coded ballot system is intended to help distinguish between the Mayor and corporator votes. Voters should follow the instructions provided by polling officials when marking and depositing their ballot papers.
