Heavy Rain and Gales Disrupt Life in Vizag as Coastal Andhra Sees Morning Showers

Coastal Andhra, especially Vizag, witnessed light to moderate rainfall accompanied by strong gales this morning, leading to waterlogging on main roads and interrupting daily routines for commuters and schoolchildren. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), similar weather patterns are expected over the next two days with wind speeds reaching 40–50 km/h .

In Vizag, areas like Bheemili and parts of Eluru district recorded around 4 cm of rainfall, while other coastal zones experienced 2–3 cm. Gusty winds uprooted tree branches, and scattered power outages were reported in low-lying neighborhoods.

Morning commuters faced slow traffic and public transport delays due to waterlogged intersections. Authorities have issued advisories urging residents to use caution during travel, especially in areas known for flooding. The Visakhapatnam Port Trust also flagged rough sea conditions, cautioning fishing vessels against venturing out.

The IMD attributes the unsettled conditions to a combination of a low-pressure system over Bay of Bengal and a seasonal trough, affecting weather across Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema until at least July 3.

Local agencies have mobilized municipal teams to manage drainage and clear debris. Residents are advised to stay updated, carry umbrellas, and avoid travel during peak rain and wind intervals.
