Jagan Seeks Governor’s Intervention Over Alleged Obstruction of YSRCP Candidates in Andhra Polls

YSRCP president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy approached Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer on Sunday, October 18, 2026, seeking intervention over what he described as undemocratic practices during the nomination process for urban local body elections.

During his meeting at Lok Bhavan, Jagan alleged that candidates from his party were being obstructed from filing nominations, while ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supporters were being allowed access to nomination centres. He requested the deployment of Central forces and comprehensive CCTV surveillance to help ensure free and fair elections.

According to Jagan, nominations could not be filed in eight places, while only 36% of nomination papers were submitted in 19 other places. He further alleged that nomination papers belonging to YSRCP candidates were torn up in eight locations. In Pulivendula, he said, only 19 nominations were filed across 36 wards.

Jagan also raised concerns over the alleged treatment of YSRCP MPs, including Y. S. Avinash Reddy, P. V. Midhun Reddy and M. Gurumoorthy, at nomination centres. He alleged that candidates faced attacks and intimidation and raised concerns about police action during the process. These claims were part of the representation he submitted to the Governor.

The nomination process has reportedly been accompanied by clashes between TDP and YSRCP supporters in several areas, including Punganur, Pulivendula, Tirupati and Kadapa. Reports indicate that police intervened in some locations to control tense situations.

Jagan appealed to election authorities to ensure that every eligible candidate willing to contest is given an opportunity to submit their nomination. He also stated that his party would explore legal remedies over the alleged irregularities.

The allegations have intensified political tensions in Andhra Pradesh ahead of the local body elections. The claims concerning obstruction and misconduct remain allegations raised by the YSRCP leadership; ensuring a transparent nomination process and addressing complaints through the appropriate election authorities will be important to maintaining public confidence.
