The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has reported a decline in malaria and dengue cases following the implementation of intensified disease prevention measures across the city. The civic body has expanded mosquito control activities, sanitation drives, and public awareness campaigns to reduce the spread of vector-borne diseases during the monsoon season.

As part of the preventive strategy, GVMC teams have carried out extensive anti-larval operations, fogging, source reduction activities, and inspections in residential colonies, schools, construction sites, and other vulnerable areas. Health workers have also educated residents about preventing mosquito breeding by removing stagnant water from containers, rooftops, and surrounding premises.

Officials stated that continuous surveillance and early intervention have contributed to the reduction in reported malaria and dengue cases. Medical teams are monitoring fever cases, conducting awareness programmes, and coordinating with healthcare facilities to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment whenever required.

GVMC has appealed to citizens to actively participate in maintaining public hygiene and report mosquito breeding sites to civic authorities. Officials stressed that sustained community participation, along with preventive measures, will be essential to keeping vector-borne diseases under control and ensuring a healthier environment across Visakhapatnam.
