The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has approved a ₹334.89 crore internal flyover project at Visakhapatnam Port.

The proposed elevated corridor will cover 3.584 km within the port area.

It will connect Convent Junction with the Dock Area to facilitate smoother cargo movement.

The flyover is designed to separate road and rail traffic within the port premises.

The project will address congestion at nine major railway level crossings.

These crossings currently experience around 18 gate closures every day, affecting vehicle movement and cargo evacuation. 

The frequent closures can result in longer waiting times, higher fuel consumption and increased vehicle operating costs.

The elevated corridor is expected to improve the efficiency and speed of cargo movement through the port.

The project will also include civil and electrical works, utility shifting and safety installations.

Five years of post-construction maintenance has been included in the project.

Construction is planned to minimise disruption to ongoing port operations, particularly in critical dock areas.

The project is scheduled to be completed within 30 months from commencement
