Officials Review Progress of AI-Based Project SARTHI in Visakhapatnam

Senior officials reviewed the implementation of Project SARTHI, Visakhapatnam's AI-based intelligent traffic management initiative.

The review focused on the deployment of smart traffic systems, signal optimisation, and timely execution across major junctions.

Officials directed departments to expedite the project to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and enhance urban mobility.

Senior officials from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and Visakhapatnam City Police reviewed the progress of Project SARTHI (Systematic Augmented Radial Traffic and Hoop Induction), an AI-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System being implemented across the city. During the meeting, representatives of the project developer presented updates on traffic analytics, vehicle monitoring, signal optimisation, real-time traffic surveillance, and junction management.

Officials also conducted field inspections and instructed departments to speed up road widening works, improve connectivity to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport, and prepare plans for creating more signal-free junctions. The review emphasised timely implementation and coordination among all departments involved in the project.

Project SARTHI will introduce an integrated AI-based traffic management system across 101 key traffic junctions in Visakhapatnam. The project includes adaptive traffic signals, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), red-light violation detection, helmet and triple-riding detection, wrong-way driving alerts, pedestrian safety systems, and a centralised command-and-control platform. These technologies are expected to improve traffic flow, strengthen enforcement, and enhance commuter safety.

Officials said Project SARTHI is a major step towards building a smarter and safer Visakhapatnam. Once completed, the system is expected to reduce travel time, minimise congestion, improve emergency response through green corridors, and serve as a model for AI-driven traffic management across Andhra Pradesh.
