Visakhapatnam has strengthened tourist safety arrangements at Kailasagiri with the inauguration of a new police outpost at the hilltop attraction on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The facility was established through coordination between the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) and the city police department. The inauguration was attended by VMRDA Chairperson M.V. Pranav Gopal, Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu and City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi.
Kailasagiri attracts visitors for its panoramic views of the coastline, landscaped gardens and hilltop attractions. With tourist numbers increasing, officials said stronger security arrangements were needed to help visitors access assistance when required.
The new outpost will provide a local police presence to respond to visitors’ concerns and support security management, particularly during busy holiday periods. Officials highlighted the importance of maintaining a safe and convenient environment for families and other tourists.
Traffic congestion on the winding Kailasagiri ghat road was another concern raised during the programme. VMRDA Chairperson M.V. Pranav Gopal said steps would be taken towards constructing an alternative road to improve access and traffic movement.
The initiative is part of wider efforts by the VMRDA and Visakhapatnam City Police to improve tourist facilities and security at one of the city’s best-known attractions.
