Google is expanding its AI infrastructure footprint in India through an approximately $15 billion investment planned for 2026–2030, its largest investment in the country to date. A major part of the plan is the company’s first AI hub in India, being developed in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. 

The Vizag AI hub is planned as a full-stack AI infrastructure project, combining a purpose-built data-centre campus capable of gigawatt-scale compute capacity with expanded fibre connectivity and new energy infrastructure. Google says the facility is intended to provide high-performance infrastructure for businesses, developers and researchers working on AI applications. 

Another major component is a new international subsea cable gateway in Visakhapatnam. Google says multiple international subsea cables will land in Vizag, adding route diversity to India's existing cable infrastructure and improving the resilience of the country's digital backbone. 

Google has also moved the project into its construction phase. The company said it broke ground on the AI hub in Visakhapatnam, while associated programmes are being developed to build local skills and involve businesses in the emerging AI infrastructure ecosystem. 

 

The investment is therefore broader than a single data centre, combining AI computing, connectivity, energy and workforce development as Google builds its infrastructure base in India.
