Political activity intensified in Visakhapatnam as Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Mayor candidate Mukka Sravani filed her nomination for the upcoming Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections on Sunday, October 18.
Sravani submitted her nomination in the presence of several leaders from the ruling alliance. Following the filing, she expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for placing his trust in her and giving her the opportunity to contest for the Mayor’s post. She also highlighted her familiarity with local issues and her rapport with residents.
The TDP has selected Sravani, a former GVMC corporator, as its candidate for the Mayoral position. The party leadership reportedly considered the views of alliance leaders, legislators and constituency representatives before finalising her candidature.
Sravani is set to face YSRCP nominee Varudu Kalyani, a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and president of the party’s state women’s wing. Kalyani filed her nomination on Saturday, October 17. The contest is scheduled for October 28, 2026.
The upcoming election is expected to be a significant political contest for control of Visakhapatnam’s civic administration. Both candidates will seek support from corporators as the process moves towards the Mayoral election.
