The rural local body election process has gathered pace in Visakhapatnam district, with three candidates filing nominations for Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) seats, according to the report published by The Hindu.
The nominations come as Andhra Pradesh prepares for elections to Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) and ZPTCs. In Visakhapatnam district, elections are scheduled for four ZPTC seats and 53 MPTC seats.
According to the election schedule announced by the State Election Commission, nominations are being accepted from October 21 to October 23. Scrutiny of nomination papers is scheduled for October 24, while polling will take place on November 3. Counting of votes and the declaration of results are scheduled for November 5.
Candidates contesting ZPTC seats must submit their nomination papers to the designated Returning Officers at the Zilla Parishad office. MPTC candidates are required to file their papers at the respective Mandal Parishad offices.
The district administration has made arrangements to conduct the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Officials have also put monitoring teams and election expenditure checks in place to ensure compliance with the Model Code of Conduct.
The nomination process is an important step in the lead-up to the rural local body polls, with candidates competing for representation in local governance institutions across the district.
