Usha Vance’s Grandmother Visited by Revenue Officials in Vizag: US VP's India Trip Draws Local Attention

A quiet neighborhood in Visakhapatnam recently found itself in the spotlight after a visit by revenue officials to the residence of Usha Vance’s 96-year-old grandmother. Usha Vance, the wife of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, traces her roots back to Andhra Pradesh, and her family continues to reside in the coastal city of Vizag.

The visit, though routine in nature, coincided with increased media and administrative interest sparked by the Vice President's scheduled visit to India. Officials clarified that the purpose of the visit was part of a routine property verification process, a common administrative procedure especially when high-profile foreign dignitaries are expected to connect with local relatives.

Sources in the revenue department emphasized that there was no specific directive targeting the Vance family, but the local buzz around the visit naturally grew due to the family’s ties to the U.S. Vice President. Neighbors and local residents expressed pride and curiosity, with many unaware of the global political connection until now.

Usha Vance, born Usha Chilukuri, is a litigation attorney of Indian origin. Her ties to India remain strong, and her family has been known in Vizag’s medical and academic circles for decades. With the U.S. Vice President's anticipated engagement in India covering strategic partnerships, trade, and diaspora connections, this unexpected local highlight has added a personal dimension to international diplomacy.

Officials have since confirmed that the visit had no political intent and was unrelated to the Vice President’s itinerary. However, it did ignite excitement in the community, prompting discussions about cross-cultural roots, recognition of local heritage, and the broader influence of the Indian diaspora.

The event serves as a reminder of how personal stories can intertwine with global affairs — making a quiet home in Vizag part of an international narrative.
