Visakhapatnam observed Police Commemoration Day on October 21, paying tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties and protecting the public.
A commemorative programme was held at the police martyrs’ memorial on Beach Road. City Police Commissioner Shankha Brata Bagchi paid floral tributes to the fallen personnel and acknowledged the sacrifices made by police officers in maintaining public safety and security. District Collector Abhishikth Kishore, Navy representatives, retired police officials, family members of police personnel and other dignitaries also attended the programme.
During the event, the Commissioner highlighted the importance of people-friendly policing and the use of modern technology to address challenges such as cybercrime, drug trafficking and financial fraud. He called upon police personnel to remain committed to public service and ensure law and order in the rapidly developing city.
Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 in memory of ten Central Reserve Police Force personnel who were killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959. The day also honours police personnel across the country who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The observance serves as a reminder of the risks faced by police personnel and their role in protecting communities. It also recognises the importance of supporting the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
