Visakhapatnam’s Bengali Community Welcomes Goddess Durga with Traditional Prabhat Pheri

The Bengali community in Visakhapatnam welcomed Goddess Durga with a traditional Prabhat Pheri, a morning devotional procession organised by the UTSAB Cultural Association on Friday. The procession brought together men, women and children who sang bhajans and played traditional instruments, including the dhak, kansor and shankho. Participants wore traditional attire, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The procession started at Kali Mata Temple near RK Beach, passed the Pandurangapuram Temple and ended at AMCOSA Hall in Maharanipeta. The event reflected the Bengali community’s cultural traditions and devotion during the annual Durga Puja celebrations.

According to the association, festivities at the pandal will continue until October 20, when the immersion ceremony, known as Bisarjan, will take place. The programme includes Agomoni songs on Shashthi, harvest dances on Saptami, Sandhi Puja and a concert by singers from Kolkata on Nabami. Bhog prasad, competitions and a food festival are also planned.
