Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat has urged the South Coast Railway to expedite major railway infrastructure projects in Visakhapatnam and North Andhra.

During a meeting with South Coast Railway General Manager Sandeep Mathur, he raised concerns related to station expansion, railway lines and passenger facilities.

Sribharat requested that the expansion of Visakhapatnam Railway Station from the existing eight platforms to 14 platforms be accelerated.

He also sought faster construction of the third and fourth railway lines between Gopalapatnam and Visakhapatnam.

According to the MP, the additional railway lines could help ease operational constraints and improve train punctuality.

He called for the modernisation of signalling systems and expansion of the Gnanapuram-side coaching yard.

Improvements to foot-over bridges, lifts, escalators, waiting halls, parking facilities and passenger circulation were also sought.

The MP urged railway authorities to identify bottlenecks along the Visakhapatnam–Gopalapatnam–Kothavalasa corridor.

He requested both short-term and long-term measures to improve railway operations in the region.

Sribharat also sought a feasibility study for halts of Vande Bharat trains 20833 and 20708 at Duvvada.

He proposed new Vande Bharat services connecting Visakhapatnam with Tirupati, Chennai, Secunderabad and Bengaluru.

The MP also requested a night express service linking North Andhra with the Amaravati–Guntur region.

He called for regular reviews, faster approvals and timely allocation of funds for pending railway projects across North Andhra.
