Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat has expressed confidence that the city will have sufficient water to meet its future requirements by 2040.
He addressed concerns over water availability as Visakhapatnam prepares for increased industrial growth and the establishment of major data centres.
According to Sribharat, the city's projected water requirement by 2040 is around 1,500 million litres per day (MLD).
The estimate includes water requirements for domestic consumption, upcoming industries and data centres.
The MP said the city is expected to have significantly higher water availability than its projected requirement.
He expressed confidence that once the Polavaram project becomes fully operational, Visakhapatnam would have an additional water surplus.
Sribharat said the city could still have around 600 MLD of excess water after meeting projected requirements.
The MP also responded to concerns surrounding the water requirements of Google's proposed hyperscale data centre investment in Visakhapatnam.
He said advanced air-cooling technology planned for the company's facilities would reduce dependence on water for cooling.
According to Sribharat, the data centre's water use would eventually be comparable to that of other major corporate facilities.
He stressed that large investments could help strengthen infrastructure, the startup ecosystem and allied industries in the region.
The MP said the developments could also create direct and indirect employment opportunities while supporting Vizag's long-term growth.
