20 Electric Buses to Connect Vizag with Bhogapuram Airport in First Phase

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is set to launch 20 electric buses in the first phase to provide seamless connectivity between Visakhapatnam and the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport. The initiative is part of the government's efforts to strengthen public transport while promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility.

According to officials, the electric buses will initially operate on key routes connecting different parts of the city to the airport. Around 10 buses will run between Gajuwaka and Bhogapuram, while another 10 buses will serve the route via Scindia, ensuring convenient access for air travellers. The fleet is expected to expand to nearly 50 buses in the coming months, depending on passenger demand.

To improve the travel experience, APSRTC is also establishing dedicated passenger waiting lounges at important locations, including Yendada, Venkojipalem, Gurudwara, NAD, Autonagar, RTC Complex, Railway Station, Hanumanthawaka, and VMRDA Park. Trial runs will be conducted before commercial operations begin to assess route efficiency and service quality.

Officials believe the electric bus service will reduce dependence on private vehicles, lower carbon emissions, and provide affordable airport transportation. The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the operations of Bhogapuram International Airport while improving regional connectivity and promoting green urban mobility across Visakhapatnam.
