Adivasi Agriculture and Digitalisation in Focus at Vizag Consultation Meet

A two-day consultation meeting was held in Visakhapatnam with a focus on Adivasi agriculture and digitalisation. The discussions examined challenges faced by tribal farmers and communities in accessing agricultural support and government services. Participants highlighted the importance of making digital agricultural systems accessible to people living in remote and tribal areas. Digital platforms can help farmers access information, welfare schemes, crop-related services and market opportunities. However, limited connectivity, digital literacy and documentation requirements can create barriers for Adivasi communities. The consultation focused on identifying such gaps and exploring practical solutions. Participants also discussed the importance of strengthening agricultural livelihoods in tribal regions. Technology-based agricultural initiatives are increasingly being explored to provide farmers with timely crop information and advisory services. Andhra Pradesh already uses digital systems such as e-Panta for crop registration and agriculture-related service delivery. Similar digital tools could potentially help improve access to agricultural support when designed around the needs of tribal communities. The meeting also underlined the importance of community participation in developing inclusive agricultural programmes. Strengthening digital access alongside traditional knowledge and local farming practices could support more sustainable livelihoods. The consultation is expected to contribute to discussions on making agricultural digitalisation more inclusive for Adivasi communities in the State.
