Andhra Pradesh is currently witnessing a sharp contrast in weather patterns, with some regions enduring intense heat while others battle heavy rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of Rayalaseema and north coastal Andhra Pradesh received significant downpours on May 15, bringing temporary relief to those areas.
However, several inland districts continue to suffer from extreme temperatures, with mercury levels soaring above seasonal averages. The heatwave conditions have raised health concerns among residents, especially vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
The IMD has forecasted further heavy rainfall in isolated areas of north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema through May 16 and 17. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are also expected, which may cause localized disruptions in power supply and transportation.
Authorities have urged residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun, and remain indoors during peak heat hours. Farmers have also been advised to safeguard their crops against possible storm-related damage.
While the rain brings a welcome break to some, the uneven distribution of weather conditions highlights the unpredictable nature of the season’s transition and underscores the importance of climate adaptation and preparedness.
