In a move aimed at uplifting economically weaker sections in the Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced the construction of permanent houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme. The initiative was declared by State Civil Supplies Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy, who emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive development and social welfare.
Under this scheme, BC, SC, and ST families residing in rural and semi-urban areas will receive not only new housing units but also financial aid and infrastructural support, including local shopping complexes to improve livelihoods. The announcement was made at a public meeting where several local beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the long-awaited support.
Minister Parthasarathy assured that the houses will be constructed using durable materials and will include basic amenities such as electricity, drinking water, and sanitation facilities. “This is not just housing support; it is a step towards dignity and stability for every deserving family,” he said.
The state government is also exploring additional benefits such as skill training and employment linkages in these newly developed areas to ensure long-term sustainability.
The housing program is expected to begin construction in phases by the end of July 2025, with a target to cover thousands of families across both districts.
