Body of Assam College Student Found Near Railway Tracks in Vizag Region; Family Seeks Probe

The body of Himashree Boro, a 20-year-old college student from Assam, was found near railway tracks between Dusi and Penubarti villages in Srikakulam district on Wednesday, after she travelled from Visakhapatnam. She had come to Vizag on September 30 as part of a dance troupe to participate in competitions. Deccan Chronicle

According to the report, Himashree boarded the Kanyakumari–Dibrugarh Vivek Express from Visakhapatnam around midnight on October 6 after missing an earlier train on which she had a reserved berth. The train was reportedly heavily crowded. She sent a video to friends indicating that there was very little space inside the coach. Deccan Chronicle

Her friend, an Andhra University student, had accompanied her to the railway station. CCTV footage reportedly showed him attempting to board the train before getting off and returning to his hostel. Himashree later lost contact with her friends, and her mobile phone was subsequently found switched off. Her two bags were reportedly found inside the train coach. Deccan Chronicle

Visakhapatnam GRP officials said they are investigating how she fell from the moving train and are examining whether she accidentally fell because of the crowd or was pushed. Her parents have alleged that some intoxicated passengers had attempted to harass her and have sought a thorough investigation. Deccan Chronicle

The woman's parents were expected to reach Andhra Pradesh, after which a post-mortem examination was to be conducted at RIMS Hospital, Srikakulam. Authorities are also coordinating arrangements to return her body to Assam.
