Congress Holds ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ Protest in Visakhapatnam, Seeks Action Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

The Congress organised a protest in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday as part of the second phase of its ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ campaign. The demonstration was held near the Gandhi statue at the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) office, with party leaders demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and an inquiry into allegations raised against him. 

According to Congress leaders, the protest was linked to their objections over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party has alleged that the process could result in the deletion of voters' names. These are allegations made by Congress and are not presented here as established findings. 

Following the demonstration, the protesters carried black balloons and marched from the Gandhi statue through Old Jail Road towards the Indira Gandhi statue. The party also submitted a memorandum to the District Collector's office. 

Senior Congress leader Vegi Venkatesh called for Gyanesh Kumar's removal and alleged that there had been corruption allegations against him during his previous assignments. Congress leaders also called for an election official who would conduct elections transparently. These statements represent the party's position.
