The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is preparing to conduct its 2026 municipal elections using the traditional ballot paper system. According to GVMC Commissioner and Additional Election Authority Ketan Garg, arrangements are being made to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully, freely and fairly.
A total of 18,37,901 voters across 120 wards are expected to participate in the elections at 1,990 polling stations. Each voter will cast two votes using different-coloured ballot papers: pink for the Mayor and white for the ward corporator.
The nomination process began on October 16, 2026, and nominations are scheduled to be accepted until October 18. Election officials have been instructed to follow the prescribed guidelines, coordinate with the relevant departments and strictly enforce the Model Code of Conduct.
The civic administration has also urged candidates and political parties to cooperate with election authorities to ensure a smooth and transparent process. Voters are encouraged to stay informed about official election announcements and participate responsibly in the democratic process.
