Visakhapatnam, April 24, 2025 – In a bold demonstration of India's growing maritime strength, the Indian Navy's newest stealth-guided missile destroyer, INS Surat, has successfully conducted a precision strike using a sea-skimming missile during naval exercises off the coast of Visakhapatnam.
Part of the Visakhapatnam-class (Project 15B), INS Surat is equipped with advanced stealth features, electronic warfare systems, and multi-domain weapons designed for air, surface, and underwater threats. The recent test, which involved a low-flying missile designed to evade enemy radar, reaffirmed India’s commitment to modernizing its naval fleet and asserting dominance in strategic waters across the Indo-Pacific.
The missile accurately struck a surface target, demonstrating the destroyer’s high precision strike capability in combat scenarios. Naval officials confirmed the exercise was aimed at validating INS Surat’s full operational readiness and combat effectiveness in response to emerging security challenges in the region.
This successful test positions INS Surat as a key strategic asset in India’s maritime defense, particularly amid growing geopolitical tension and naval assertiveness by China in the Indian Ocean region. The ship operates under the Eastern Naval Command headquartered in Visakhapatnam, further highlighting the city’s significance as a defense hub.
With this development, the Indian Navy continues to strengthen its deterrence strategy and signals its readiness to tackle both conventional and asymmetric threats in the maritime domain.
