The Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged separate demonstrations across Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on Friday, October 9, 2026, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and an immediate halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
CPI(M) activists held a rally from their district office in Pithapuram Colony to the National Highway at Maddilapalem, where they staged a dharna. District leaders B. Ganga Rao and P. Mani alleged that the revision exercise could deprive eligible citizens of their voting rights.
Separately, CPI members protested near Mettumuthyalamma Temple in Kancharapalem. CPI district assistant secretary Patrapalli Chandrasekhar called for a judicial inquiry into the SIR process and the restoration of voter names allegedly removed from the electoral rolls.
The protesters warned that they would intensify their agitation alongside student and youth organisations if their demands were not addressed. The allegations about voter deletions were raised by the protesting parties and should not be treated as independently established findings.
