Renowned actor, politician, and philanthropist Nandamuri Balakrishna has been conferred the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema and public life. The announcement was made as part of the Republic Day honours, drawing widespread acclaim from fans, colleagues, and political leaders across the country.

Son of legendary actor and former Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), Balakrishna has carved his own legacy with a career spanning over four decades in Telugu cinema. With more than 100 films to his credit, his powerful screen presence and deep-rooted connection to Telugu culture have earned him a devoted fan base. Films such as Samarasimha Reddy, Narasimha Naidu, and Gautamiputra Satakarni are considered milestones in Tollywood history.

In addition to his cinematic achievements, Balakrishna is a serving Member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, representing Hindupur since 2014. He is also the Chairman of the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute, which provides affordable cancer treatment to thousands of patients

Speaking after the announcement, Balakrishna said, “This honor is not just mine—it belongs to the legacy of my father NTR, my family, my fans, and the Telugu people. I dedicate this award to all who believe in the power of cinema and service.”

Leaders from the film and political fraternity, including Chiranjeevi, Rajinikanth, and Andhra Pradesh CM Chandra Babu Naidu, extended their congratulations, hailing Balakrishna’s contributions as “inspirational” and “deeply rooted in service to the people.”

The Padma Bhushan reaffirms Balakrishna's standing as a cultural icon who has seamlessly blended art, leadership, and compassion in service of his community and country.
