Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project: Paving the Way for a Smarter, Greener City

Visakhapatnam is taking a giant leap toward modern urban mobility with the development of a comprehensive metro rail system. Covering a total of 140 kilometers, the project will feature 80 kilometers of dedicated metro rail lines and 60 kilometers of tram lines, creating an integrated, efficient public transportation network.

Planned to be fully operational by 2028, the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project is designed to ease the city’s growing traffic congestion, reduce pollution, and enhance connectivity across key residential, commercial, and industrial hubs. This modern transport system is expected to offer a safe, fast, and affordable alternative to traditional road-based travel, making daily commutes easier and significantly improving the quality of urban life.

The metro network will include elevated, at-grade, and underground sections depending on the terrain and urban density. Meanwhile, the tram network will serve areas where full-scale metro construction is not feasible, ensuring last-mile connectivity throughout the city.

With Visakhapatnam emerging as the financial and technological capital of Andhra Pradesh, the metro project aligns perfectly with the city's future growth plans. It also underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable urban development, smart mobility solutions, and making Vizag one of India’s most livable cities.
