Parents' Protest in Visakhapatnam Forces Private School to Roll Back Fee Hike

In a strong show of unity, parents of students from a prominent private school in Visakhapatnam staged a protest against an abrupt fee hike, resulting in the school administration withdrawing the increase.

The protest, which took place outside the school premises, drew significant attention. Parents accused the school of burdening them with unjustified and repeated fee hikes, without transparency or justification. Demonstrators carried placards and demanded regulatory intervention, highlighting the increasing commercialization of education.

The agitation was peaceful yet firm, and its impact was immediate. School authorities, after a series of discussions with the parents and intervention from education department officials, agreed to revert the fees to the previous structure.

This incident has reignited discussions around the need for better regulatory oversight of private educational institutions, especially regarding fee structures and parental rights.

One of the protesting parents stated, “We’re not against education. But yearly hikes without explanation are unacceptable. This time, we decided to stand together—and we’re glad we did.”

Education activists in the city have since urged the government to enforce strict guidelines for private schools and ensure accountability.
