Visakhapatnam’s medical technology sector is set to welcome a new entrant, with Royal Sandur MedTech Private Limited securing a long-term land lease at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) to establish a proposed manufacturing facility.
Royal Sandur MedTech is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited, the flagship company of the Royal Sandur Group. The lease agreement with Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Limited, a Government of Andhra Pradesh undertaking, was executed on October 19, 2026.
6.2 Acres Leased for Manufacturing
Under the agreement, the company has leased 6.2 acres of developed land, equivalent to approximately 25,090 square metres. The site has access to infrastructure provided by AMTZ, including roads, electricity, water supply and effluent management facilities.
The lease has a tenure of 33 years. The agreement also provides the company with an exclusive option to convert its leasehold rights into freehold ownership after 10 years from the commencement of business.
Royal Sandur MedTech has additionally taken office space at the World Trade Center within the AMTZ campus to support project development.
Sandur Manganese Diversifies into Medical Technology
The move marks a new phase in Sandur Manganese’s business diversification beyond its established mining and metals operations. The group’s existing activities include manganese and iron ore mining, ferroalloys, coke and energy, and specialty steel.
Through its new subsidiary, the company plans to enter the medical devices and consumables manufacturing sector. Managing Director Bahirji A. Ghorpade said the diversification strategy aims to create new growth opportunities alongside its core businesses.
The company has identified AMTZ’s shared manufacturing infrastructure and scientific facilities as a platform for developing its medical technology operations.
Investment and Production Timeline Awaited
The company has not yet disclosed the planned capital expenditure, the specific medical devices or consumables it intends to manufacture, or the expected date for starting production. Further details on investment and project implementation are expected to be announced later.
The land lease represents an initial step towards establishing the proposed facility; it does not mean that manufacturing operations have already begun.
The development adds to Visakhapatnam’s role as a location for medical technology manufacturing and could contribute to the expansion of India’s domestic medical devices sector as the project progresses.
