South Coast Railway (SCoR) conducted a mega cleanliness and awareness drive at Visakhapatnam Railway Station on Thursday as part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign. General Manager Sandeep Mathur led the shramdaan along with senior railway officials and staff under the theme “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath.”
The campaign began at the Gnanapuram station entry and circulating area and covered adjoining premises. Mathur later inspected the station, with particular attention to Platform No. 8, and reviewed the functioning of ride-on scrubber-driers, high-pressure jet cleaners and mechanised floor sweepers.
An electrically operated compaction litter bin was also inaugurated at the station. Officials reviewed cleanliness and waste-management practices at drinking water booths, waiting halls, catering stalls, foot overbridges and track beds, with instructions to strengthen waste segregation and scientific disposal.
SCoR also directed station authorities and the Railway Protection Force to strengthen anti-littering monitoring through CCTV surveillance and impose spot fines on offenders. The General Manager interacted with passengers to receive feedback on cleanliness and station amenities and urged them to use designated bins and avoid littering.
