World Bank Team Holds Talks with GVMC on Visakhapatnam Economic Region Development

A World Bank team has held discussions with GVMC officials as part of an assessment of Visakhapatnam’s development potential and infrastructure requirements. The study is linked to the proposed City Economic Region under the wider Visakhapatnam Economic Region. GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg presented the city’s development trajectory, ongoing initiatives and proposed infrastructure projects. The discussions covered key areas that could influence the city’s future economic and urban growth. These include water supply, sewerage and sanitation, road infrastructure, mobility corridors and housing. Slum redevelopment and broader urban infrastructure requirements are also being examined. The assessment is intended to identify priority interventions needed to support the region’s planned expansion. Visakhapatnam is being positioned as a major economic and investment hub in Andhra Pradesh. Better infrastructure and connectivity are expected to play an important role in attracting businesses and supporting new investments. The World Bank team is also examining existing urban systems and gaps that may need attention as the city grows. Further field inspections and site visits are expected to provide a clearer picture of infrastructure needs across Visakhapatnam. The exercise could help shape future projects aimed at making the city more connected, sustainable and economically competitive.
