Annual Fishing Ban Lifted: Vizag Fishermen Return to the Sea

After a two-month hiatus, the vibrant fishing activity has resumed along Vizag's coastline as the annual fishing ban officially came to an end. The ban, which typically lasts from April 15 to June 14 each year, is enforced to allow marine life to replenish during the crucial breeding season.

With the lifting of the ban, hundreds of mechanized and traditional fishing boats have returned to the sea, filling the harbor with renewed energy and anticipation. Fishermen and their families, who depend heavily on the fishing season for their livelihood, have been preparing their boats, repairing nets, and arranging supplies over the past few days to ensure a safe and successful return.

Authorities had strictly monitored the ban period, ensuring compliance to protect fish stocks and maintain ecological balance. Now, as fishing resumes, the port is once again bustling with the sounds of engines, auctions, and the day-to-day life of the fishing community.

The reopening marks not only an economic revival for thousands of fishermen but also provides fresh seafood to local markets, boosting the city’s seafood industry. Fisheries department officials have also urged fishermen to prioritize safety and sustainability while venturing into deeper waters.

The end of the seasonal ban signals a new chapter for the coastal community, blending tradition, economy, and environmental stewardship.
