GVMC Pushes Bulk Water Connections to Secure Visakhapatnam Supply

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is pushing for wider adoption of bulk water connections across the city.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening Visakhapatnam’s water-distribution system and improving supply reliability.
Bulk connections are particularly important for large residential complexes, commercial establishments and other high-demand users.
GVMC has already enabled online applications for individual, semi-bulk and bulk water connections.
The civic body is simultaneously working on larger projects to expand the city’s water infrastructure.
Recent tenders include the rehabilitation and modernisation of the bulk and semi-bulk water-supply system.
A separate project is also planned to provide 24/7 water supply to Madhurawada and adjoining areas.
The city is facing growing demand from residential expansion and industrial development.
Visakhapatnam currently consumes around 500–530 MLD of water, according to recent statements by the city MP.
The government is also looking at additional water sources and storage to improve long-term water security.
The focus on bulk connections forms part of wider efforts to prepare the city’s water network for future demand.
The measures are expected to play an important role in securing a more dependable water supply for rapidly expanding parts of Visakhapatnam.
