Cyclone Arnab Hits Vizag Fishing Harbour
Cyclone Arnab has caused damage to fishing boats and equipment at Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour, raising concerns among fishermen who depend on the sea for their livelihoods.
According to information shared by Yo! Vizag, the cyclone damaged five boats, while five others capsized. The damage has added to the challenges faced by the local fishing community following the severe weather and rough sea conditions.
MP and MLA Visit Affected Fishermen
Local Member of Parliament M. Sribharat and Visakha South MLA Vamsikrishna Srinivas visited the cyclone-hit fishing harbour to assess the situation and interact with affected fishermen.
During their visit, the leaders spoke with fishermen about the damage to boats and other fishing materials. They also discussed the losses with the concerned authorities and assured the affected community that they would seek government assistance.
The visit took place amid heavy rain and difficult weather conditions as the city continued to assess the impact of Cyclone Arnab.
Fishermen Face Livelihood Concerns
Fishing boats are essential assets for families who depend on daily catches for their income. Damage to boats, motors, nets and other equipment can prevent fishermen from returning to work until repairs are completed.
The losses at the harbour have therefore raised concerns about repair costs, financial assistance and the time needed for fishermen to resume their regular activities.
Call for Support and Recovery
The leaders assured fishermen that their concerns would be conveyed to the relevant authorities and that efforts would be made to secure assistance from the government.
The extent of the damage and the support required will need to be assessed by the concerned departments. Timely relief and repair assistance could help affected fishermen restore their equipment and return to work.
As Visakhapatnam recovers from Cyclone Arnab, support for coastal communities remains an important part of the wider recovery effort.
