Political activity is intensifying in Visakhapatnam ahead of the upcoming local body elections, with approximately 100 YSRCP leaders and workers from Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Ward 6 joining the TDP.
The joining programme was held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the camp office of Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao in MVP Colony. The new entrants reportedly came from Kommadi, Amaravati Nagar, NTR Colony and Sairam Colony, among other areas within Ward 6.
Former YSRCP Ward 6 president Botta Appalaraju was among those who joined the TDP. Other leaders named in reports included Kanakaraju, Sanjeev, Manyala Hanumanthu and Ganesh. TDP cluster in-charge Manyala Sombabu led the group of new entrants, who were welcomed into the party by Ganta Srinivasa Rao with yellow scarves.
Speaking at the event, Srinivasa Rao said more YSRCP leaders were interested in joining the TDP. His remarks came as political parties stepped up organisational activity and sought to strengthen their presence at the ward level ahead of the civic polls.
The development adds to the political activity surrounding the GVMC elections. However, the joining announcement was reported through a party press release, and the number of people joining reflects the reported attendance at this particular event rather than a wider measure of political support across Visakhapatnam.
