Breaking Boundaries: D. Shreya's Journey from Visakhapatnam to Red Bull BC One

Breaking, also known as breakdancing, is a style of street dance that originated in the Bronx, New York City, in the 1970s. Over the years, it has become a global phenomenon, with dancers from all over the world showcasing their skills in various competitions and events. Shreya, a talented Bgirl from Visakhapatnam, is one such rising star who has been making waves in the Breaking community.

Shreya started her Breaking journey at the age of 13, inspired by the dance moves she saw in movies and on the internet. She began training under the guidance of Sohail Gill, a well-known breaking coach and the founder of Destiny Breakers Int. Dance School in Visakhapatnam. Over the years, D Shreya honed her skills and developed her unique style, blending power moves, footwork, and freezes to create dynamic and impressive routines.

D Shreya, a.k.a. Bgirl Shreya, a Breaking/Breakdance Athlete from Visakhapatnam (AP), won the Runner-Up Title in the Bgirl Category at an International Breaking Championship called "RedBull BC One: West India Cypher 2023". The event was held in Mumbai on March 26, 2023, with a participation of 100+ dancers (boys and girls) and was judged by a panel of international judges: Bboy Lilou (France), Bboy Victor (USA), and Bboy Zoopreme (Netherlands).

Redbull BC One hosts four zonal qualifying events: East India, West India, North India, and South India, specific to two categories: Bboy 1 vs. 1 and Bgirl 1 vs. 1. From each zone, a certain number of dancers (Bboys and Bgirls) are picked based on their performance. A total of Top 16 Bboys and Top 8 Bgirls are picked from all over India as finalists to compete at the RedBull BC One India Finals 2023. After taking the runner-up position at the West India Cypher, Shreya has qualified as a finalist and will be competing at the India Finals, which will be held in Mumbai on May 5–6, 2023.

Last year, Shreya made her debut at the "RedBull BC One: India Finals 2022" as the first breaker/breakdancer from Andhra Pradesh to compete at one of the most prestigious break/breakdance events in the world and was ranked among the Top 8 Bgirls on the all-India level. Shreya started her journey as a Bgirl (break dancer) in 2015, when she was only 13 years old. She has been a student of Destiny Breakers International Dance School for the last 8 years under the guidance of Coach Sohail Singh Gill, who is the Breaking Official for Andhra Pradesh and President of the DB Breakdance Association of Visakhapatnam.

She has been constantly training and representing Vizag (AP) at various state and national championships. Some of her recent achievements include being the Gold Medalist in the senior Bgirl Category at the "AP State Breaking Championship 2022" held at Tadepalligudem on December 10, 2022, and a Quarterfinalist in the senior Bgirl Category at the "2nd National Breaking Championship 2022" organised by the All India DanceSport Federation and Breakdance Federation of India at Tirupathi on December 28, 2022.

D Shreya's talent and hard work have not gone unnoticed. Her coach, Sohail Gill, has been instrumental in her training and development, providing guidance and support throughout her journey. The Destiny Breakers Int. Dance School, where D. Shreya trains, has also played a crucial role in nurturing young Breaking talent in Visakhapatnam and beyond.

D Shreya's success is not only a testament to her talent and hard work but also to the growing Breaking community in India. Breaking has come a long way in the country, from being a niche street dance style to a recognized art form with a growing fan base. D Shreya's achievements are inspiring a new generation of Breaking enthusiasts, who are looking to follow in her footsteps and take the dance style to new heights.
