Request for Urgent Upgradation of Air Cargo Infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh has made remarkable strides in agriculture, seafood exports, and industrial growth under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister. However, despite being a frontrunner in horticulture and seafood production, the state faces a significant challenge due to the lack of adequate air cargo infrastructure, especially temperature-controlled warehousing at its airports. This limitation hampers the seamless export of perishable goods, pharmaceuticals, and textiles, forcing businesses to rely on airports in neighboring states, increasing costs and transit times.

With the completion of the Polavaram Project, the agricultural sector is expected to flourish further, leading to an even greater demand for efficient export logistics. Additionally, the upcoming Pharma Park at Nakkapalli, housing over 100 pharmaceutical companies, heavily depends on air cargo facilities. The absence of a dedicated multi-temperature cargo system is restricting Andhra Pradesh’s potential to become a major player in global exports.

We sincerely request the Hon’ble Chief Minister to initiate necessary steps for the development of modern air cargo facilities at key airports such as Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, and the upcoming Bhogapuram Airport (Visakhapatnam). The recently announced Union Budget 2025 has emphasized the importance of strengthening air cargo infrastructure, offering a timely opportunity to seek central government support for this crucial initiative.

During the post-budget interaction on 6th March 2025 in Visakhapatnam, the Andhra Pradesh Air Travelers Association highlighted this urgent need, and the Hon’ble Finance Minister acknowledged the issue, encouraging the submission of a detailed project report (DPR) for further action.

Given the immense benefits this initiative would bring to farmers, exporters, industries, and the state’s economy, we earnestly appeal to the Hon’ble Chief Minister to take the following actions:

  1. Direct the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the establishment of multi-temperature air cargo storage and warehousing facilities at key airports.
  2. Engage with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Finance & Corporate Affairs to secure approvals and funding.
  3. Ensure faster implementation of advanced air cargo screening and customs clearance to facilitate smooth export processes.

Andhra Pradesh has the potential to become a national hub for air cargo exports, significantly enhancing its economic growth and global trade presence. With your strong leadership and commitment to progress, we are confident that this critical request will receive due attention and necessary action at the earliest.

We humbly seek your support and intervention in making Andhra Pradesh a leader in air cargo exports, ensuring better opportunities for businesses, industries, and the hardworking farmers of our state.
