Crackdown on Ganja Cultivation in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: Authorities in Visakhapatnam are intensifying their efforts to eradicate ganja cultivation in the region. Police are gearing up to incinerate a massive haul of one lakh kilograms of seized ganja, following the destruction of three lakh kilograms in the previous year.
A high-level meeting was convened in Paderu on Wednesday, bringing together officials from the police, agriculture, horticulture, forest, and other departments to devise a comprehensive strategy to combat ganja cultivation.
The focus is on identifying and eliminating ganja crops during the sowing season (June-August) and promoting alternative, lucrative crops like strawberries and avocados.
DIG Gopinath Jetti emphasized the importance of inter-departmental cooperation in tackling this issue and warned of strict action against cultivators and transporters.
The officials stressed the need for awareness campaigns among farmers and youth to discourage ganja cultivation and encourage them to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.
To expedite the eradication process, inter-departmental committees will be formed at the village and mandal levels to develop effective action plans.
With a significant portion of ganja crops already destroyed, the authorities are determined to create a ganja-free region while empowering farmers with profitable alternatives.
