Mystery in Vizag: NRI Woman Found Dead in Hotel, Acquaintance Arrested for Abetment

In a tragic incident that has raised numerous questions, a 48-year-old Non-Resident Indian (NRI) woman named K. Roja was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a hotel room in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh. Roja, a software professional based in the United States, had returned to her hometown of Vizag approximately two weeks prior to the incident.

Discovery of the Incident

The events unfolded on March 6, 2025, at a prominent hotel located within the jurisdiction of the Three Town police station in Vizag. According to reports, P. Sridhar, a 52-year-old doctor residing in Texas, USA, had reserved Room No. 229 through an online application and checked in that afternoon. Subsequently, Roja was seen entering his room. A few hours later, Sridhar approached the hotel reception, requesting assistance to unlock his room door, claiming it had been accidentally locked. Upon entering, they discovered Roja hanging in the washroom, leading to immediate alerts to the local authorities.

Initial Investigation and Arrest

The Vizag city police promptly initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Roja's death. Initial observations suggested suicide; however, inconsistencies in Sridhar's statements and the absence of typical signs associated with hanging in the bathroom raised suspicions. Sridhar initially reported that Roja had hanged herself using a shower hose but later suggested she might have died due to health issues. These conflicting accounts, coupled with evidence of Sridhar allegedly disseminating private images of Roja and engaging in stalking behavior, led the authorities to arrest him on charges of abetment to suicide under multiple sections of the law.

Background and Relationship

Both Roja and Sridhar hailed from Visakhapatnam but had been residing in the United States for their respective professions. Their acquaintance reportedly spanned several years, with both maintaining contact during their time abroad. The exact nature of their relationship remains under investigation, as authorities seek to determine the events leading up to the tragic incident.

Legal Proceedings and Community Response

Following Sridhar's arrest, he was presented before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The case has garnered significant attention from both local and international communities, given the involvement of NRIs and the serious nature of the allegations. Community leaders and organizations have expressed their condolences to Roja's family and have called for a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure justice is served.

Ongoing Investigation

The Vizag city police continue to delve deeper into the case, examining digital communications, hotel surveillance footage, and interviewing acquaintances to piece together the sequence of events. Authorities have emphasized their commitment to uncovering the truth behind Roja's untimely death and have urged the public to refrain from speculation until the investigation concludes.
