Moderate to heavy rain lashed parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on September 23 under the influence of a deep depression over the westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal. The system was moving west-northwestwards towards the North Andhra Pradesh–South Odisha coast.

As a precaution, authorities announced a holiday for schools and Anganwadi centres in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju and Anakapalle districts. Government employees' leave was also cancelled, while disaster-response teams were deployed in vulnerable areas.

The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rainfall across several coastal and adjoining districts. Squally winds with gusts of up to 75 kmph were expected along and off the North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts from September 23 to September 24.

 

The State Disaster Response Force was deployed to assist with preparedness for possible rain- and flood-related situations in north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
