Heavy to very heavy rainfall affected several parts of North Andhra after a deep depression crossed the coast near southwest of Kalingapatnam between Wednesday night and early Thursday. Visakhapatnam recorded 28 cm of rainfall, while several other locations across the region also received significant amounts of rain.

The intense rainfall led to waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas, while road connectivity was disrupted in parts of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and other districts. Reports also indicated fallen trees, landslips and damage to infrastructure in several locations.

 

The rain-related situation also resulted in fatalities and prompted authorities to step up rescue and relief operations. Disaster-response teams were deployed in vulnerable areas, while officials continued monitoring flooded locations and restoring essential services.
