Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao has proposed integrating Bhogapuram with the wider Visakhapatnam urban region. The proposal comes after the commencement of commercial operations at the new Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram. The airport is located around 40–50 km from central Visakhapatnam, raising concerns about travel time and connectivity for city residents. Ganta has previously advocated for stronger integration between Visakhapatnam and the Bhogapuram airport corridor. He has also pushed for extending the proposed Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project to the airport in its first phase. The proposed integration could help coordinate infrastructure, transport and urban development across the growing corridor. Bhogapuram is expected to play an important role in the future development of the Visakhapatnam region. Improved road and public transport connectivity is also being planned to link the city with the airport. The broader Visakhapatnam–Bhogapuram corridor is expected to see increased economic activity following the airport’s opening. The proposal would require administrative and governmental decisions before any merger or boundary change can take effect. The issue is expected to remain part of discussions around the long-term expansion of Visakhapatnam’s metropolitan region.
