GVMC Cracks Down on Food Safety and Single-Use Plastic Violations

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has intensified inspections targeting food safety and single-use plastic violations across the city. GVMC’s Sanitation and Health Enforcement teams conducted 98 inspections over the past week. The inspections detected 35 violations related to food safety and 33 violations of the single-use plastic ban. Notices were issued to 18 establishments found to be violating the prescribed regulations. A total of ₹77,500 was collected in fines for various violations during the enforcement drive. The inspections were conducted as part of GVMC’s ‘Eat Right’ campaign aimed at promoting safe and hygienic food practices. Teams inspected hotels, restaurants, bakeries, food joints, street food outlets and small vendors. Officials checked food quality, raw materials, kitchen hygiene and compliance with the ban on prohibited plastic materials. GVMC currently operates 20 SHE teams across the city’s 10 zones. The civic body has indicated that enforcement efforts will continue to improve public health and environmental standards. The campaign also aims to encourage food businesses and vendors to follow safety and hygiene requirements.
