Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg has denied allegations that the civic body’s general funds were being diverted to Amaravati. He said the claims circulating through social media and other media platforms were false and baseless. The New Indian Express
According to Garg, GVMC paid ₹2,620.28 crore against 24,128 bills to contractors through its General Funds between 2019-20 and 2026-27. Of this amount, ₹940.17 crore was paid against 6,057 bills during 2025-26 and 2026-27. The New Indian Express
The Commissioner said ₹95 crore was paid to contractors on September 7, 2026, towards bills relating to November and December 2025. He added that ₹1,680.11 crore had been paid against 18,071 bills between 2019-20 and 2024-25. The New Indian Express
Garg said GVMC gives priority to clearing contractors’ bills every month through General Funds, subject to availability. He also pointed to State government support through schemes and funds including the Urban Challenge Fund, AMRUT, 15th Finance Commission and UFRMP for development and civic infrastructure. The Commissioner reiterated that no GVMC General Funds had been diverted to Amaravati and urged contractors and the public not to circulate unverified information concerning the corporation’s finances.
