Visakhapatnam is facing drinking-water shortages in several areas amid declining groundwater levels.

To improve supply, the GVMC has mapped 12 water filling points across the city.

These points have been connected to 26 GVMC water tankers and around 100 private tankers.

The system is aimed at making tanker operations faster and more organised.

The civic body has also introduced uniform rates for private tanker services following complaints of increased charges.

GVMC has launched a “Dial-A-Tanker” service to help residents request drinking water more easily.

Residents can book tankers online through the GVMC website and track their requests using a booking reference number.

Officials said tanker requests will be prioritised, with water supplied on the same day or within 24 hours.

The 12 filling points have been mapped to serve all 98 wards of the city.

Tanker operations will continue daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

GVMC has deployed assistant engineers across all 98 wards to monitor water supply and tanker operations.

Officials have appealed to residents to use water carefully and cooperate with the civic body during the shortage.
