Green Visakhapatnam has raised objections to the proposed 500-MW data centre project in the Arilova region.

The organisation has expressed concerns over the project's possible environmental and social impact.

Its honorary president, Professor Khairagi Reddy, said the project could put pressure on local natural resources.

The group has particularly raised concerns about water availability in a city already experiencing shortages. 

Activists have also expressed concern about the possible impact on the Simhachalam hills and Mudasarlova reservoir.

The project's high electricity requirement and the use of backup generators have also raised concerns over noise and environmental pollution.

Green Visakhapatnam has questioned whether adequate environmental assessment and public consultation were carried out. 

The concerns come as Visakhapatnam is witnessing rapid growth in data-centre and digital infrastructure investments.

Environmental groups say such development should be balanced with the city's water, ecological and public-health needs.

The State government has rejected allegations that the project was cleared without considering environmental concerns, while saying it is open to addressing legitimate issues. 

Google has said the project will use advanced air-cooling technology to reduce pressure on local water resources and sound-dampening measures to limit noise. 

Green Visakhapatnam has announced a public demonstration at RK Beach on August 9, urging citizens to raise their voice over the concerns.
