Home Guards Acknowledged for Exemplary Service in Visakhapatnam
In a recent statement, Superintendent of Police KV Murali Krishna of Anakapalli district in Visakhapatnam commended the contributions of home guards, asserting their equal standing with constables in the vital areas of traffic management, law enforcement, crime prevention, and various other duties.
The occasion for this recognition was the 61st Annual Home Guards Day celebrated in Visakhapatnam.
Highlighting the voluntary nature of the home guards system, SP Murali Krishna emphasized its role in supporting the police during emergencies such as natural disasters and internal security challenges. He pledged to engage directly with home guards to address their concerns and issues.
The SP also announced decisive measures taken to ensure that families of home guards, who lost their lives in the line of duty due to accidents or illness, receive all entitled benefits.
Notably, 14 individuals were provided employment on compassionate grounds.
During the celebration event, six home guards received accolades for their outstanding performance in apprehending individuals involved in activities like ganja smuggling, illicit liquor trade, law and order violations, and theft cases.
SP Murali Krishna received the salute of the home guards as part of the festivities.
Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner A. Ravi Shankar, joined by senior police officers, held a meeting with home guards to understand their grievances.
The home guards' commandant, U. Rama Mohan, expressed gratitude for the Commissioner's personal involvement in addressing their concerns.
Currently, there are 1,045 home guards in the city, serving across various divisions, including law and order, crime, and traffic. Home guards are deployed not only in general areas but also at key locations such as Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Gangavaram Port, All India Radio, Doordarshan, and other significant establishments.
