The BRICS Sports Ministers’ Meeting 2026 concluded in Visakhapatnam on August 23 under India’s BRICS Chairship. The meeting brought together sports ministers and senior representatives from BRICS member countries to discuss stronger cooperation in sports. A BRICS Sports Joint Declaration was adopted by consensus at the conclusion of the meeting. The declaration emphasises cooperation through dialogue, mutual respect and inclusiveness. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya called for a practical BRICS Sporting Partnership. Discussions covered athlete and coach exchanges, joint competitions, sports science and knowledge sharing. A proposal for a BRICS Working Group on Sports Technology was also advanced, focusing on AI, digital transformation and athlete performance. India’s proposal for a BRICS Sports Manufacturing Conclave received broad support, with Udaipur proposed as its inaugural host in November. A Traditional and Indigenous Sports Demonstration Games is also proposed to be held in Ahmedabad in October. The initiatives aim to strengthen sports technology, manufacturing, cultural exchange and people-to-people connections among BRICS countries. The meeting also included a BRICS Friendship Cycling Event in Visakhapatnam as part of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative. The outcome marks another major international engagement hosted by Visakhapatnam during India’s BRICS Chairship 2026.
