Indian Navy Team from Visakhapatnam Carries Out Successful Emergency Rescue Operation in Assam

In a remarkable display of skill and dedication, a team from the Indian Navy, based in Visakhapatnam, conducted a swift and successful emergency rescue operation in Assam following severe flooding in the region. The team, equipped with advanced rescue equipment and aided by local authorities, rescued dozens of stranded individuals from the affected areas, ensuring their safe relocation to higher ground.

On January 7, 2025, the Indian Navy dispatched a specialized team from Visakhapatnam to assist in rescuing nine miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in Assam's Dima Hasao district. The miners became trapped when water from an adjacent unused mine inundated their working area, leaving them approximately 300 feet below the surface.

The Navy's team, comprising one officer and eleven sailors—including highly trained Clearance Divers experienced in deep-sea diving and recovery operations—arrived at the site late on January 7. They immediately commenced rescue efforts, collaborating with the Indian Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local civil authorities.

Equipped with advanced tools, including deep-diving gear and underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), the team is undertaking search and rescue missions in coordination with other agencies. This collaborative effort aims to ensure a swift and effective response to the crisis.

As of January 8, 2025, one body has been recovered by army divers, and rescue operations are ongoing.
The Indian Navy's prompt response underscores its commitment to providing timely assistance during emergencies, highlighting its dedication to safeguarding lives and supporting the nation in times of need.
