Kakinada and Tirupati Lead Andhra Pradesh's Smart City Revolution
Nearly seven years after the launch of the Smart Cities Mission by the Union government, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Amaravati from Andhra Pradesh have made significant progress in implementing innovative urban projects.
Kakinada and Tirupati are leading the way with projects worth approximately ₹2,000 crore each, showcasing remarkable completion rates. Visakhapatnam has made strides with ₹1,575 crore of the proposed ₹1,700 crore projects completed.
Amaravati, though lagging behind, continues to develop its smart city infrastructure, completing projects worth ₹746 crore.
Visakhapatnam's smart city mission has notably focused on projects such as floating solar power plants, smart classrooms, and heritage conservation.
The city is set to complete its remaining initiatives by the March 2025 deadline. Amaravati, selected in the third round of the mission, is also progressing, though at a slower pace.
